Wayside

Speed camera alerts for Great Britain. No map, no navigation, no account — just a warning before the camera.

What it does

Wayside compares your location with a camera database held on your iPhone and warns you as you approach. Alerts play through your car speakers over CarPlay or Bluetooth, appear on the Lock Screen, and show your speed against the limit on the camera ahead.

It is deliberately narrow. Keep using whichever navigation app you prefer; Wayside sits behind it and speaks up when it matters.

Features

Fixed and red-light cameras

The community database covers Great Britain and refreshes weekly.

Alerts that reach you

Spoken warnings, a full-screen alert, and a Live Activity on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island.

Starts by itself

Motion detection begins a drive when you set off and ends it when you stop.

Report a camera

One tap records a position while you drive. Add the details afterwards.

Average speed zones

Between average speed cameras, see your average against the limit rather than a single warning.

Bring your own data

Import a CSV export from a commercial camera subscription and use it instead.

Privacy

Wayside has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Your location is compared with the database on your iPhone and is not sent anywhere.

The full detail is in the privacy policy.

Camera data

Camera positions come from Lufop.net under CC BY-SA 4.0, fetched weekly from the Open-GATSO-POI release. Coverage is Great Britain only.

No database is complete or perfectly current. Wayside is an aid to attention, not a substitute for it — the speed limit and the road ahead are what count.
